National Aquatics Center, also known as the ‘Water Cube’, will be one of the most dramatic and exciting sport for the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Embedded in a blue bubble walls are five pools, including rides and wave pools and a restaurant with seating and facilities for 17 000 spectators. Water Cube is located at Olympic Green, the contact for the Beijing Olympics. The stadium is located at Olympic Green, the contact for the Beijing Olympics. Development of large scale and dramatic form will create a new icon to the city of Beijing and China. Shape round the stadium is a paradise, while the rectangular shape adjacent National Aquatics Center, also engineered by Arup design is a reflection of the Chinese symbol for Earth. Although the shape of the structure is described as a popular stadium bird’s nest “, the pattern was originally inspired by Chinese style ‘crazy’ pottery, usually found in the Beijing market, and the randomness of the natural world.
